It is a fact that any internal combustion engine benefits from breathing unrestricted, cool, dense air because it increases the engine's volumetric efficiency by occupying less space. Additionally if such air is available at a pressure closer to atmospheric, a ramming effect is easily created. So, for every combustion cycle, more of it can be inhaled, This additional metered-air can then be mixed with more fuel for increased power (compared to the same engine breathing hotter air) and improved throttle response. Typically, this improvement is accomplished by eliminating obstacles and optimizing the path the incoming air has to follow before it reaches the combustion chambers.
